Sweet Walking Matilda, beloved three-time World Grand Champion and six-time World Champion, was humanely laid to rest on September 29, 2026. Sired by Jose’ Jose’, Matilda leaves behind a remarkable show-ring legacy and a lasting place in the hearts of those who had the privilege of loving her.

Matilda made her show-ring debut in the Maiden class at the International in the summer of 2022. From that first appearance, it was evident that she was special. Over the years, Sweet Walking Matilda became a familiar and much-loved presence in the show ring, earning the admiration of exhibitors and spectators alike.

In 2023 and 2024, Matilda continued to add to her impressive record, collecting wins with Margo Urad and Laurie Toone. Then, in the fall of 2024, Matilda became the pride and joy of Ally Jo Jacobs. What followed was a partnership that would become one of the most memorable chapters of Matilda’s celebrated career.

Ally Jo and Matilda quickly made their presence known at shows throughout the Southeast. Their partnership reached a special milestone at the 2025 Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, where the duo captured the 11 & Under Trail Pleasure World Championship and the Youth Trail Pleasure World Grand Championship. Those victories added two more prestigious titles to Matilda’s already impressive résumé and showcased the special connection she shared with her young rider, leading Ally Jo to her very first solo spotlight ride.

Sweet Walking Matilda remained undefeated throughout 2025 and continued that winning streak into 2026. Her final appearance in the show ring came at the Fireworks & Freedom show in July with another blue-ribbon ride with Ally Jo. 

Beyond the championships, ribbons and titles, Matilda will be remembered for the joy she brought to those around her and for the special bond she shared with Ally Jo. Her influence reached far beyond the show-ring, and her accomplishments will remain a cherished part of walking horse history.
